Cladus: Eukaryota ------ Aphyllanthaceae is the botanical name of a monocot family of flowering plants in the order Asparagales, more recently reduced to the subfamily Aphyllanthoideae of the family Asparagaceae.[1] The family and subfamily names are derived from the generic name of the sole type genus, Aphyllanthes, endemic to the western Mediterranean region. The family has only been recognized by a few taxonomists. The APG II system (2003) does not recognize the family as such, but allows it to be optionally segregated from the family Asparagaceae. The APG III system (2009) does not allow this segregation. The family or subfamily consists of only one species, Aphyllanthes monspeliensis. 1. ^ Chase, M.W.; Reveal, J.L. & Fay, M.F.
